webpage critiques

1. A good professional design: wall street journal
As it is known to all, WSJ is a professional website for Business News, Journal and other kinds of information. Its home page is user friendly. It is clear to see its categories from world business news, national news to small business information. Also the background color is soft and basic, and the ads do not distract readers' attention.

2.A good personal design: This is indexed
According to the blogger, this is a blog that lets him make fun of some things and sense of others. The background of the blog is pure white, which is pretty clear to look at. The pictures in the posts all seem like his notes, which are really interesting to read. The context are simple but can lead to some meaningful afterthoughts.

3. A bad personal design: Style bubble
This blog is the one I always follow to get some fashion news. The blogger is a newborn stylist who has sharp insight for fashion. However, her blog is hard to read for a long time, because the typefaces on the page are various and the colors of letter are really colorful. Also the links on the page are unorganized, or say, are not well organized.  Although the contexts are very excellent, she need to put more efforts on designing the webpage.

what makes a good video

In my opinion, there are three elements that makes a good video.

First: Keep it short. People watch videos everywhere on websites, and they trying to get information they want as fast as possible. The reason why people like to watch videos is that they want to get more informatin in relatively short time, or else they could choose to read book. As a result, a good video has to be succinct and abundant in the same time. It is best to be short, share, and to the point.

Second: Be meaningful/useful/ interesting. No matter what genre of video you are making, you have to make it for a meaninful purpose. News---gives latest information about things happening in our world; Instructional video---teaches audience some skills or knowledge; Ads---have commercial purposes. Fill your video with interesting contents so that your audiences will not close it before it ends.

Third: Good sound and visual effects. No body wants to watch a video that is full of noise, orh the camera is shaking all the time. That will make your audience headache. Be professional when you shot the video. Keep an even pace to move your camera, and use professional audio equipment to collect voice.

There are three good videos I find online.
  • News: Onion News :)   Onion news is a very popular news series online. It makes fun of all kinds of social events around us.

  • Instructional video: How to make up as a Tim Burton style   Michelle Phan is popular online because of her outstanding making up skills. This video is teaching how to make up in a gothic style in Tim Burton's movies.

  • Ads: funny tv commercial   This is a beer advertisement that impressed me several months ago. I like it because it is funny and creative.

The genre I want to choose is Advertisement video. I want to work on this, since creating a good ads needs creativy, professional skills, interesting stories, and, sometimes, sense of humor. I am a creative person, and I like to tell interesting stories. I want to make a good advertisement for drink or food. That must be funny.

I changed the contrast,So the red became more bright than before. I raise the exposure, So the photo became clearer.I adjusted the curve, so there are different tones in the photo.
And I also used the effects in Photoshop, and that is why the photo looks kind of spooky.

Elements of a good BLOG.

Every blogger wants their blog to be attractive to people. However, since blog readers are from all kinds of backgrounds, making a good blog that is generally liked becomes difficult. For me, here are 3 important elements that make up a good blog:
  • Contents and Perspectives
The contents in the blog should be relevant as well as in fashion. No matter what area the blog is about, its contents are supposed to provide readers useful information. Moreover, the bloger's perspectives should be unique and valuable. With these two facts, this blog can somehow inspire its readers.
  • Design and Arrangement (Inc. pictures and music)
Another critical element is the page design. A good blog is supposed to have a well arranged format. Every part of the blog should follow a certain style that represents the blogger's interests, professional, personality and so on. According to various surveys, most people prefer to looking at pictures or listening rather than looking at words. As a result, pictures and music are also very important elements of a good blog.
  • Links
Links of a blog can also be factors to determine whether the blog is a good one. Lots of people look at a blog's links to assum things about the blogger, such as authority, interests, and social status.

I found two good blogs as examples. One is a personal blog, and the other is a professional one. Both of them are closely concerned about FASHION. I chose them because fashion is an eternal as well as current topic.

Really Petite is a professional Fashion blog for petites. I choose it because it has the elements that I mentioned above to make it standing out. First of all, the page design is absolutely attractive to petites, and the format is clear and sweet. It teaches petites how to dress themselves, how to become attractive, and how to choose styles that fit for them. There are tons of pictures illustrating these "lessons". Readers can also shop in it, which is very convenient.

Style Bubble is a personal blog of a girl who lives in UK. She posts her own stylelook on the blog as well as various kinds of fashion news. Although she makes this blog all by herself, Style Bubble has become one of the authorized references of fashion. In Style Bubble, photos are the leaders of the show. Also, her explainations of those fashion news are percise. What's more, the links on her page are amazing. Check any of them, and you will be surprised.
